The Garden Open at Bodfach Hall, Llanfyllin on Monday 30th May 2011 made £2,512 for local charities which was a great result.
The teas and entrance money made £1,812 which was donated to Ysgol Pennant, Penybontfawr Male Voice Choir, Llanfyllin Workhouse and the Llangynog Memorial Hall Appeal.
The charity stalls themselves made a further £700 for their own causes at the event. They were: Llanfyllin NSPCC, Llangynog Bowling Club, Llanfyllin High School, Llanfyllin Workhouse, Llangynog Memorial Hall, Shrewsbury Bookfest and Hope House.
The attractions included a great display by the amazing collection of rhododendrons, music by the Penybontfawr Male Voice Choir and the youngsters from North Powys Youth Music, a bouncy castle and trampoline for the kids, plant and other stalls, a photographic exhibition by Geoff Wilkinson, the Bodfach Book Fair and delicious homemade teas.
Simon and Maggie Baynes said:
"We were very worried in the morning as the weather was appalling with pouring rain. But then it suddenly lifted at 1.30pm, half-an-hour before the Garden Open started. By mid-afternoon there were blue skies and over 400 people attended the event.
We are very grateful to Cllr Barry Thomas, Chairman of Powys County Council, and our new Assembly Member Russell George for opening the event.
Thank you to everyone who helped, particularly the Bodfach home team - Wendy, Clare, Alan, Mike, Geoff and Big Mike - and the Friends of Penybontfawr School. We were delighted with total raised for local charities of £2,512".
